Real-Time Process Control and Optimization

The SN8 is an online respirometer designed to interact with the process and serve as a tool for its better control and optimization. For this purpose, the SN8 consists of oxygen, temperature, pH and ORP probes. It allows the control of the main processes of a wastewater treatment plant: organic matter degradation, nitrification and denitrification.
Tests and parameters
By means of the SN8 respirometer, the following tests are performed, which provide the following parameters continuously and automatically:
- Global Respirometry: OUR (mg O2/l.h), SOUR (mg O2/g.h)
- Nitrification rate: AUR (mg NH4/l.h), SAUR (mg NH4/g.h)

Inconvenient activated sludge process
- Slow dynamics making it difficult to make decisions when problems arise. Whatever measure is decided, its effects on the process will not be clearly observed for a few days.
- This fact makes it especially relevant, on the one hand, to detect problems as early as possible and, on the other hand, to make the right decisions from the very beginning. However, it is not possible to evaluate the biological process with physical or chemical measurements, direct information of the biomass and the effect of the wastewater to be treated on it is needed, as the SENSARA respirometers do.
