SICTU- Continuous Turbidity Monitoring System

Real-Time Monitoring for Water Quality Assurance

Turbidity

Turbidity is defined as the reduction of the transparency of a liquid caused by the presence of undissolved matter, suspended particles, especially colloidal particles such as clays, silts, silica grains, organic matter, etc. The assessment of the abundance of these particles measures their degree of turbidity. This will be smaller the more effective the water treatment has been.
Nephelometry is the quantitative method used for the determination of turbidity in drinking water or water with low turbidity, using optical nephelometers or laser technology.

Team

Low range Laser Turbidimeter (0.001 – 40 UNF) with high accuracy (± 2% or ± 0.015 UNF) based on EPA 180.1.

Data logging

Continuous recording of Turbidity, Percentile95 and Percentage of samples exceeding the reference value (i.e. equal to or less than 0.3 or 4 UNF), which shall not exceed 5% annually.

Communication-Alarms

  • 5 analog inputs
  • MODBUS communication, data discrimination while faults persist.

Summary of SICTU Benefits and Specifications

Key Benefits:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Specifically designed to comply with the reference values established in Royal Decree 3/2023 for drinking water quality.
  • High Accuracy: Equipped with a Laser Turbidimeter with low range (0.001 - 40 UNF) and an accuracy of ± 2% or ± 0.015 UNF, based on EPA 180.1.
  • Early Problem Detection: Quickly identifies deviations in water quality, acting as an early warning of potential problems in the treatment process.
  • Data Logging and Access: Continuously records key parameters such as turbidity, Percentile95 and percentage of samples outside of reference values. Provides remote access to data via SCADA or export to Excel.
  • Flexibility and Connectivity: Full integration with SCADA systems through MODBUS and configuration of e-mail alarms to notify in case of non-compliance.
