The SN-EF Control Unit automatically adjusts the Age of the Sludge in the biological reactor on the basis of the growth rate in the autotrophic biomass (μA) obtained by the SN8 Online Respirometer.

WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL?

This control unit enables us to avoid problems resulting from:

EXCESSIVE FEED:

  • Dispersed growth and poor elimination of nutrients

UNSUITABLE FEED:

  • Formation of foam.
  • Overloading of secondary decantation
  • Excess demand for oxygen (increased by endogenesis).

TEMPERATURE:

  • For every 10ºC increase in temperature, the biomass growth rate doubles, the required sludge age is reduced by half and the MLSS are reduced.

THE SN-EF UNITS OFFERS:

  • Continuous data that do not suffer from the variability of values from
    sporadic samples.
  • Data without the need for laboratory analyses.
  • Accurate data based on respirometry.

HOW IT WORKS?

On the basis of readings from the SN8 online respirometer, the minimum sludge age required in our process is calculated.
This calculation is based on the growth rate of the autotrophic biomass (μA).

TRC min. = 1 / (µA – kd)  (Metcalfe & Heddy)

This value is used to calculate the minimum age of the sludge, so enabling the continuous optimization of the flow from the sludge drain pump.

NECESSARY ELEMENTS FOR INSTALLATION OF THE UNIT:

  • SN8 online respirometer.
  • SN-EF Sludge Age Control Unit (software).
  • Hardware (depending on the plant).
  • Optional sensors: oxygen, solids, ammonium, pH, temperature.
